The ball is played quickly to the unmarked wide player on the right, by the player nearest the ball.
-
This pass triggers the attacking movement of your team, it is essential that the unit moves together for maximum impact. The wide player receives the ball and drives into the space vacated by the left back who is caught out of position with a lack of concentration.
-
To increase your chances of scoring, look at the movement of your two forward players. One will be moving towards the goal, in-line with the near post and one to the far post. On approach to goal, get the player at the near post to peel away to the back post and the player at the back post to drive into the near post. This will make them difficult to mark and will cause confusion for the defending team.
-
The ball is then crossed into the box, looking to hit the second 6-yard box or POMO (Position of maximum opportunity) as it is called (the swerve cross is best in this situation, as noted in the crossing drills). Ensure that your forward players are first to the ball in the box.
-
Have your supporting players in position to win any second ball and get a shot in on goal.
