A good delivery of the cross is the key to success when attacking from corners, so make sure you know who your best takers are. Decide which type of delivery that you will use, there are a variety of options e.g.in-swinger, out-swinger, chipped to the near post/centre, whipped to the back post etc. A good tip to keep one step ahead of your opponents is to have signals for certain deliveries e.g. One hand in the air / front Post, two hands in the air / back post etc.
-
If you have a tall player or a player that is good in the air, you may want to position them at the front post to flick the ball on or have them at the far post to attack the ball from a deeper position. Have four players looking to attack the ball at the far post, make sure these are your best players in the air. Have them positioned level with and outside the line of the back post near the edge of the 18 yard box.
-
Have these player’s moving and swapping positions before the corner is taken, this will add to the confusion of the defenders that will be marking them. As the taker moves towards the ball to deliver, have the four players split and look to attack different areas. Have your tallest/best player in the air, spin off arriving late at the back post to attack the ball. Have a player at the front post, to flick the ball on if the delivery is lower than intended.
-
Have a player positioned by the goalkeeper to distract them and ensure they don’t have a clear path to catch the ball. Have 1-2 players, depending on the situation, on the edge of the box who will react to the second ball that may be cleared by the defenders. Make sure you have two defenders covering on the halfway line in case the defending team win possession and start a counter attack.
